Title: Creating a good report
Post by: andreblue on April 09, 2012, 03:21 am
Simple way to create a report:

Step One:
Prepare yourself before anything happens:
A) Recording a demo of your play time.
    Pros:
        Cons:
        How To Get A demo:
        Small Tips:
Save it in a way it is easy to tell the dates/server/time.

Quote
record april_8_11pm_#5
The Month, then the date, the time, and the server.

B) Fraps
    Pros:
    Cons:
How to Fraps:
Note:
Not all recording programs with it are the same. This is just the general idea based off using the highly used "Fraps" program
Note 2:
At regular intervals, check the steam ideas of players in the server with
Quote
status
to get the steam ids
Step Two:
Getting it ready to report it:
Ensure you have the offender's Steam id

Note:
Use of SteamIdFinder (http://steamidfinder.com/) Or SteamIDConverter (http://steamidconverter.com/)

Ensure nothing is edited, else it will be rejected.

If you used a recording program:
Transcode it to a smaller size format( WMV is a decent one)
Upload to youtube if possible. Else upload to a file share site/utility like DropBox.com (http://DropBox.com)

If you made a demo, you can upload that to a file share site/utility like DropBox.com (http://DropBox.com) also.

If you have pictures:
    A) Upload to the site here
    B) Use a sharing site such as Tiny Image/Imgur/Dropbox
Determine what the Abuse is:
Admin Abuse:

Use of admin powers that break any rules/agreements set by the MOTD/Buy admin thread
Such as:
No Clip to raid, fast travel, and or escape damage
Mis-use of Ban/kick/slap/slay/gag/mute/ragdoll/etc. commands

Player Abuse:
RDM/NLR, Mass RDM, Prop Spam, and others rules set in the Motd

Step Three:
Creating the ticket:
Now that you have all you need, you need to post it
Now for this you need to say right off, what happened. After so you then can say if you sent a video, the times/ticks if it is a demo, as this will make it much easier for the staff that responds. Then you need to link the outside evidence with
Code: [Select]
Name for the link
as to not create ugly links. After so, you can put any other steam Id's you can not fit in the box. And now you are ready for the next step

Thank you, got the main stuff done, just to make it look nice now.

Edit: If anyone has something to say about what i should also show/add reply with it.
If something is not looking right also reply about that

this was a great job Andre. Hopefully this will help admins recive tickets with more clarity, with  little less confusion...

If anybody wanted an example of a clear, easy to understand and easily resolved ticket and a great use of andre's method above im recommend looking at one of Slurpre's tickets because he clearly states what they abused, time etc and usually has valid evidence in the form of a video. This is my opinion and understanding through looking at a few of his tickets.

Just incase someone wished to view them.

I mostly use demos, fraps and screenshots.

Edit:

Your tickets should be constructed with something of the lines of:
*Info about the incident
*What rules was broken (what was abused)
*Time of the incident
*Proof in form of pictures/demo/youtube.
*Steam ID + server.

Edit 2: Simply whenever you play, just type in console "Record <Demoname>" and from there you can give ticks of the video you wish the admins to see, or you can record the demo using fraps. Demo also gives you the possibility to 'drive' which allows you to move around freely.

Yes it has been done before however this thread is new and getting a lot of attention so people are more likely to look at it and hopefully read it! :D

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but it would be good if this was linked in the 'Read me before using the helpdesk', and maybe even a notification screen for first-timers? There's lots of tickets that get resolved/stuck in the awaiting user response section and this could help, even if it's a little. :)

How is fraps harder to catch abusers?

And also, wmv isn't really a good filetype. it just gets the job done.

Fraps will bog most computers down. Many dont have it set up to record well. Then wmv is good to get it uploaded decently fast, and without much hassle. I also say its decent not good. And most people also have windows movie maker or such

Also you need to buy it! 30 seconds can not be enough for some cases, and a demo can just run for hours on end with a small filesize (<50mb).

Oh and it's also useful for the drive tool, and proving someone uses hacking addons.

Many many many ways of "Purchasing" Fraps for free, ya get me?

Also..

Record in Fraps, Open it in WMM, Save the movie as a lower quality ( 480p takes like 24MB per minute of video whereas 1080p takes like 180MB per minute ), Publish the movie to Youtube as a lower quality, Profit..

But running fraps throughout your session would be horrible... first you'd need to scale it and publish, then upload to Youtube.. a lot simpler to just upload a demo file with a tick range specified.

You don't run it through it, You record a demo of the whole time, then when you need evidence out of a part of the demo, Run Fraps and record the segments of the demo that you need, this makes it a lot easier instead of uploading the Demo to the forums, as .dem can't be uploaded to Youtube, And the video being uploaded to Youtube can allow the ticket to be resolved a lot faster.

Use Dxtory, its professional software but easy to use. My pc is old now and the middle of the market, Dxtory lowers my fps by less than 5. Fraps did about 20. Dxtory quality is better too! Nice idea though!

It's stickied anyway so why not give out a tip? I would use it since fraps eats away a lot of FPS and I just get 20-40 FPS at max.

Bandicam beats all.

Used to have Bandicam, it brought me down to 20 FPS from 30 so it's alright.
